Unidentified Christmas Fish

Jocelyn

listening to: Janis Joplin on wxpn.org
feeling: hungry and good

Our trip to Cozumel was awesome. As Jon explained below, we snorkled ALOT. On two seperate occasions I saw an unidentified fish. I have named it the Christmas fish. It has a red/maroonish lower half. The top half has large multicolored scales. The colors range from hunter green to tan, and some are shimmery. I saw the fish as little as 2 inches long to 12 inches long...and they were almost always eating. I tried to flag Keith and Jon over to take a gander at these fish but everytime I saw them, no one was around me. Its a Christmas Miracle. For the other fish we saw, if I saw them in a cartoon, I wouldnt believe they were real. The fish were all messed up, 1/2 purple, then a stripe, then yellow...some were triangular. God does have a sense of humor.

We're BACK!

feeling: Full of Burritto!

Okay, so, we went to Mexico and now we are back. I am a little upset about it, really.

1) I missed my dog, and my iMac, and my house and bed...but my job still BLOWS.

2) Someone has been openning mail in my neighborhood, which Jocelyn knew about, but noone has called the police that I know of. Anyway, when we got home we had three christmas cards that had already been openned in our Mail. None of them even attempted to cover their tracks by putting them in the envelopes when they were done. So, I hope nobody sent us money or gift cards from Target or anything, because some jackass has them.

Curiously, he/she did not open the envelope from Jay with my $600 check in it, nor did he take my issue of Wired. Not much of a reader, I guess.

3) My job BLOWS.

4) I forget where I was going with this entry. Oh yeah, it's all about Mexico, and it's after the jump.

I was SO tired...

Jon
12.14.04 @ 04:54 PM CST
listening to: Cake - Is this Love?
feeling: I think I have to poop.

So, lastg night I got home from work, ate some chips and Salsa, then some dinner, and promptly fell fast asleep for about 12 hours...with a 10 minute interlude in which I attempted to watch TV with my wife. It didn't work though, I wanted to be asleep, and I found myself getting irrationally upset with the people on the TV for keeping me up...so went back to bed. I woke up at 7:15 this morning and came to work.

Dude. I slept for almost 12 hours. How nuts is that?

Nerdy-Ass Shit!

feeling: Decent I guess...

Get Firefox! So, what's up with Microsoft sucking big, fat, smelly, hairy ass? I mean, seriously, do they have to make crappy stuff and break the rules and refuse to support ratified standards? Like, is it in their charter or something? Did Billy get drunk and right it into the employee handbook? Seriously. I can get behind making your browser do things others won't...but why ignore a standard? Huh?

Let's leave it at this. If you are reading this in IE...you are missing out. Get FireFox.

FrankenMac is (sob) dead.

feeling: Mixed. Grief, relief.

There's no good way to break this news. It's always so hard. The Beige G3 233 that I bought in January 1998, which served me well for (almost) 7 Years suffered an electrical malfunction on Saturday afternoon and, much to my regret, has passed on.

The last few hours for the machine were tough, becoming less and less responsive until, finally, the CD-ROM was no longer getting power reliably, and the hard drives became unresponsive, finally failing to respond to the keyboard, and refusing to find any of the available bootable disks.

The upside of this weekend's events is that Jocelyn and I have welcomed into our home a new, more powerful, and prettier bundle of Joy & Productivity. Please join us in welcoming our new 20" iMac G5. It is a welcome addition, and I look forward to working with it more than I work on it, if you know what I mean.

The last few months with the old G3 (which was now a G4/500) were like dealing with an ailing pet or an old car. Or Both. On one hand, I knew that it was running on borrowed time, held together by elbow grease and the sweat of my brow, and on the other, every time I sat down at it I prayed that my reliable ol' workhorse would really be as invincible as I pretended, and make it through one more job. The resulting mix of emotions during the final hours (read: from 2:30 to 10:30 pm Saturday) were a mix of anger, grief, frustration, and finally, relief. I know. I am king of the Geeks.

A little QuickTimeVR of the new baby after the jump.

One more week

feeling: tired

So it's another late night working on design. I would like to say I don't have many more of them to go but actually I have a whole week left of them. I am working on two models, two plans, one site plan, two sections, 8+ perspectives, and whatever else my teacher decides that he needs. So how do I have time to type this because I have to let the glue dry. And for those who don't know that is just as boring as watching paint dry.

My (Jon's) Christmas List 2004!

Jon
12.01.04 @ 09:19 AM CST
listening to: NPR, as always.
feeling: Mixed. Hate my job...but DSVC is tonight!

Okay, so this post is going to be more self-serving drivel. Know that now, so that you are not suprised.
It's my christmas list! Every year my Mom used to ask me to make one, and I would say "If you took any interest in me as a person, you would know what I wanted" but after my experience with gift registries during the whole wedding thing, I have decided that it's good to give people a little help with gift giving. After all, chances are they will get you something you want!

Anyway, click on the word "More" to see the list. It will be added to and edited continuously...so check back occasionally.

If you want to make it easy though, you can just visit My Amazon Wishlist
