My fennel got ransacked and I loved it! These monarch caterpilars, plus other less cute caterpilars ate the 4 fennel plants down to stalks. I would visit them everyday and think about how I was giving pretty things food and how I was making the world a pretiier place to be. This is just one of the caterpliars of many. He was praying before he chowed down for the day. Isn't he cute!

An interesting image that comes from the process that I've been using is the color layer that I am creating. You see, when I color these things I am actually coloring UNDER the lines in the image, like I would paint on the back of a piece of celluloid for a traditional animation cell.
The resulting image reveals some interesting things about the coloring process in general, and work that I am actually doing for this image. In this image I think the most interesting things are the negative spaces where the two characters that I haven't colored yet are, AND the odd objects that end up being colored really well that you might not appreciate in the complete artwork...like the main character's (Jacob's) tie.

Okay, so this is half putting a thought out there, and half reminding myself...because I had this thought, and now it is gone, but maybe it'll come back.
If you'd like to contribute, I welcome it. Although I am skeptical that it will be as good as the thought I had on my own.
So, anyway. I had this thought the other day that was essentially a proof (geometry style) that proved that it is impossible for a committee to design something great. In fact, I might have proved that committees to design anything that does completely suck. I might have ended up with the statement Design by Committee = Bad.
Of course, I have no idea how I did this now, or what the logical leap that allowed me to do so was, nor do I remember the crux of my proof. If I even remembered the slightest hint of the kernel of truth to the idea, I am positive I would be able to reconstruct it. But alas, I cannot.
We are all doomed.

I've been working really hard since we got back from Philly to build that site. It's not the final, because I have some graphics to generate, and then once I do that I need to go back and make some flash stuff to get it really up and finished (and get my money)...but that's not bad for essentially two days of work.
I had finished the design part before I left, but hadn't started any code...so I started cutting and coding yesterday at about noon (once I had finished going through the mountain of e-mail that I had to wade through upon my return). I had a meeting this morning that kept me out of the office until 10...but other than that I have been a coding fool!
Anyway. Check it out.
[EDIT : Also - GoLive Rules, Dreamweaver Drools. I could have done this is half the time in GoLive.]

So for those of you who I haven't spoken to about my thesis, I got challenged to write a book, and I mean literally. So I have been writing chapters and I had to pick a font and a layout for the pages (which I am doing after completing my flash presentation).
So I am presenting a book and a building on Sat. and my flash is the book in graphic format, as are my boards, which are the chapters, matching the presentation but static so that the jury can reference them during the 1/2 hr that they get for Q&A. Anyway, we are supposed to go on for 15 minutes and so far my presentation is 8.66 minutes, but I have 5 more images to add and timing to fix, so that you can read the text that is present on the screen.
Anyway, I'm excited, the pages for the book are coming together, I have no idea how long it is yet, because I have to format the text with the images and then put together the table of contents but it is going to be fun. Anyway, I am enjoying gray text on white backgrounds, the interplay of the gray works well for my concept.
So anyway, I will talk to Jon about the blog site if he looks over my book.

Nothing. I got bored. I don't really like this graphic (nor did I really like the old one), but I wanted to play with using layers of gradients to emulate a glossy finish...so this is what you get.
Anyway, I think the site needs some new stuff, but I don't know what. Maybe you can help me with it this weekend. ;-)

The client accepted this mock-up of the design for his new site...first time out! BAM!
BTW - Before y'all start making "helpful" comments about the navigation: studies have shown that placing navigation on the right of the content encourages the user to spend more time actually reading the content, and increases comprehension of the site's content by almost 100%.
Of course, as a print designer, that makes total sense to me. We read left to right, top to bottom (and yes, in that order; something below and to the left will be read before something on the top right), so placing the content on the site to the left of the navigation encourages people to read...placing the navigation before the content encourages them to jump around.
Now, does that mean that every site should have right-side navigation? Certainly not. Catalogs, for example, should make it really easy to get where you want to be. Same with a newspaper/newsletter site, or a site that has thousands of, say, traffic regulations or something.
Anyway. Client liked the design, and I do too. Yay yay yay! Woo woo woo!
