Paintball on Sunday...

feeling: Good. Tired. Good.

Okay, so I'm a day late, but I am here to tell you all about my Sunday at the paintball park.

This will be an extended entry, so in interest of not dominating the whole front of the site, I will making it short, and if you want to know more, read on after the "more" tag at the bottom.

Briefly:
Keith and I played really well together. In the early morning we played 2 on 3 against some kids and did okay. They won a lot, but there's not much you can do about it. One of them played commendably well. He was fast and fearless, and skinny. It's hard to shoot skinny kids. ;-)

The middle of the day was a loss. There were too many people in one group to play well, and a lot of them were spoiled rich brats shooting $1000 guns and throwing more paint than I shot all day. At one point I was holding off a 4 on 1, for well over a minute...which is proof that they couldn't play their way out of a paper bag. A fat guy shouldn't be able to hold off a 4 on 1 for more than 10 seconds unless you are all punks.

As the whiny rich kids trickled away we picked back up with reasonably sized groups, and Keith and I started to clean up again. The last game we played definately ended the day on a positive note, as we systematically dissassembled the opposing 4 man team in a scant few minutes of play.

All in all, a good day of paintball, and very encouraging. Keith and I are thinking about putting together a 3-Man team to compete in a 5-Event rookie series being hosted by a local field. That's how well we played.

January is a crazy hectic time of year....we run winter sessions, prepare for spring and work on the summer/fall schedule all at the same time.....to make it worse we add professional development meetings, that are interesting but eat up a lot of time. I am looking forward to the end of February....

The weather here has been fabuluous....mostly 50's during the day. There has only been one icy morning. Tuesday night when I was driving home at 9:30, there was snow flurries (more like hail) with thunder and lightening. Fortunately it didn't last too long so I could enjoy the wonder of the weather without ending up with major driving issues.

I'll be working late on Monday, so this would be a good time to give your dad a call. Next Monday and Tuesday I'll be in Alexandria, Virginia. Sorry Dad wasn't able to get away to drop in on you in Texas. We are still just thinking about our spring vacation plans, but hope to drop by for a weekend.

We are going to Philly on Saturday to drop off stuff to Nicole. While we are there we'll go to the car show so I can start thinking about what kind of gently used car I want to buy in two years.

Silly Stuff

Jon and I have been busy working and there are no signs of it slowing down. This is a good feeling because its January, I know for me a slower time of year than, lets say, the spring. I don't know what I like the most right now, building relationships, knowing that clients have an incredible trust in me, or watching the whole process from start to finish. It's a good time right now. This week, Mabel got sick off of eating too much paint from paint balls and kept us up all night Sunday night so we could let her outside to drop Incredible-Hulk-Green poo all over the backyard. The garbage disposal got a massive clog, and handy-man Jon fixed it on Wednesday. By this time the kitchen was a wreck with all the dirty dishes because we couldn't use the dishwasher while the disposal was jacked up. Today, it's Friday...Mabel is back in full effect, the kitchen is back in full effect, and yesterday I bought two items to keep up better organized-a huge shelf thing for the laundry room and a small nice looking shelf for the bathroom. The dryer is now cleaned off, the bathroom counters aren't such a wreck. I went to bed feeling at peace and orderly. It's amazing how the little stuff makes me happy. We're finally getting some rain tomorrow and Jon is playing paintball Sunday. Ahh, life is good.

I have an infected hangnail on my right ring finger and it hurts really bad.

I never realized how much I used/hit/scrape/touch that finger during my day. This sucks.

That's all I have.

Dude, what's up with the low post frequency?

Okay everybody, here's the deal. Because of the recent onslaught of comment spam the site has been receiving I have had to disable comments in the archives.

What that means, in a nutshell, is that once an entry leaves the front of the site, you will not be able to comment on it. So, five days (six really) after an entry is posted it will be moved to the archive (as it does currently) and you will no longer be able to comment on it.

Have I over explained?

Time to play catch-up. [Paintball, Busy, Etc.]

Okay, so I have been absent from the 'blog for a little while. Here's what's been going on:

I am busy. I just dropped off photos to my client. I should be done. I have an ad due tomorrow, and a catalog due after that, and a website that is overdue. I have cards in the works, for a corporate ID overhaul, sites for KeepOpen.com, ohTwentyone.com, and ArtofOpera.org, and a bunch of other stuff I am sure I am forgetting.

Okay, so here's the big news: Keith and I played paintball this past weekend. I played pretty well. I wouldn't say I was on fire, but I have learned something. Playing paintball well is a philosophy. What I need to work on now is the athletic part that takes you from playing well, to competing.

myRig (27k image)This is my marker, as I played with it this weekend. I thought at the time that I was out-shooting my loader, but I then realized that my battery was dying from pulling the trigger 4,000,000 times beforehand. I was probably still out-shooting it. Anyway. I had a lot of fun. I really like my 'gun. It's not as accurate as my old cocker, but it is really fast, pretty light, and very upgradeable.

Dad and I went to see Producers on New Year's Eve. It was very funny. Jon, did you get a book from us for Chirstmas? I think it never came (I can't find the receipt so that's why I am asking.)
Nicole and Greg have both moved out....talk about an empty nest!.

The family is all coming over on Saturday for the January birthdays and to see the girls before they all leave for Spring. This is the first year Nicole will be around this weekend. Usually we are moving her back into the dorm. I think last year people were handing her birthday cards at Easter.

It has been a busy January with lots of be to work early days....I am ready for a day off on Monday. Maybe I'll wax the dining room floor.....but then again, maybe I'll read all day! The weather here is wonderful....possibly 60 degrees tomorrow. Being Maryland, that can't last but we'll enjoy it in the mean time.

Jon, I liked your closeups. Very clear detail. Will call soon.

So, I got my first photography gig shooting some stuff for a catalog. It's totally cool.

I ,of course, am not really a photog, and I have a lot to learn, but I am reasonably happy with the results. Also - IF and when I get another photo gig, I am buying a film scanner, because the people at all the photo processing places here will not scan them at a very high resolution...which doesn't make any sense to me, because they just put one roll of film on a disc, and it only used like one third of the disc!

Anyway, I would have liked to have higher quality scans. Jerks.

So, here's a few samples of my work. Click on them to zoom in.

New Years

New Years Eve. The night poses problems for me. I don't want to stray far from home because of the drunk drivers. Last year we stayed in, Keith came over and we played a drinking game to Gilmore Girls. This year we actually went out...to the bowling alley! Jon made a nice dinner, we drank some wine and then went to the bowling alley party, complete with paper hats and noise makers. What others may consider a fun New Years, we had none of, and still had a good time. We drank soda the whole night, bowled until our arms were ready to fall off, and toasted in the new year with some cheap bowling alley champagne. We bypassed the 'bowling alley breakfast buffet' and ate ice cream at home. Somehow, with all the caffiene I had that night I still woke up feeling like I had a hang over and I smelled like the bowling alley, which smells like a bar.

Last night I painted the bathroom. One more coat and some help from Jon and the bathroom will be in 'spa' quality by tomorrow morning!
