feeling: Fine, I guess

Remind me to write this one later too:

Why did I become a designer?
When I was in high school, my art teacher gave this speech at the beginning of the school year about how an artist touches almost everything we interact with on a daily basis. Problem with that is, they don't. Artists touch art...so unless you deal with art on a day to day basis, it simply isn't true.

Designers touch almost everything that we interact with on a day-to-day basis. Your bed, your toothbrush, your clothes, your car, your computer, your note pad, the packaging on your lunch, the road signs, your TV, your lawnmower manual, newspaper, and alarm clock. Designers touch everything you do. Artists don't have much of an opportunity to affect the world around them...but it's what designer's do all day every day.

That's why I am a designer.

I think that I have desire to be more than just an architect for the exact reason that Jon became a designer. I want to touch people's daily lives on an intimate level, instead of just the building they either ignore or only apprecaite on special occasions (the big difference between office buildings and museums).

Side note, there are however some kick ass office buildings.

Geez you guys mull over things. Just do it. Listening to you two helps me realize different traits that I have. I just do it. That is one of the reasons why the world is safer because I'm not a designer of anything. Let's play pretend. If I were a designer/architect things would be built, they'd look pretty or modern or however I was feeling that day. Then I'd change my mind and tear it down, repaint it or bust out windows and put them somewhere else. The world would be in an uproar. OR if I built houses, I'd have a grand idea to live in a commune and keep everything as simple as possible then I'd wake up, run away and build a hut out of steel and concrete and put carpet all over the walls. Ahh, enough pretend...
